Watch a film of a recent presentation about our work by Mercy Masoo, WaterAid’s Country Representative in Malawi, delivered in a series of presentations around Australia in October. Mercy speaks of the water and sanitation crisis in this small country known as ‘the warm heart of Africa’ where close to three million people do not have access to safe water and half the population do not have adequate sanitation. As a result too many children die every year from diarrhoea. “People defecate in the open and then that is washed into water sources and then people have to drink from those water sources.” Mercy discusses the work WaterAid and local partners are doing to improve the situation and people’s lives. WaterAid started its first program in Malawi in one district in 2000 and now works in 11 districts in rural and urban service delivery, governance, and advocacy. Click here to view the film.
