Over 650 million people live without safe water.

2.4 billion people don't have access to adequate sanitation, one in three of the world's population.

Around 315,000 children under-five die every year from diarrhoeal diseases caused by dirty water and poor sanitation. That's almost 900 children per day.

WaterAid first started working in West Africa in 1985. We now operate across seven countries in West Africa: Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger.

In May 2012, we opened our West Africa regional office in Dakar, Senegal. The team works to strengthen WaterAid’s impact and visibility at the regional level through building relationships with local governments and advocacy and development partners.

The office is also responsible for providing support, advice and guidance for all country programmes in the region.
