WaterAid Australia is looking forward to an exciting 2008.

In East Timor, we will be extending our programme support to an additional 16 villages in Aileu, Lautem and Liquica districts.

Now that our office in Dili is up and running and fully staffed, 2008 should be a year where we are able to establish ourselves as a key agency in the local water and sanitation sector.

We will work closely with the East Timor government and the AusAID funded Rural Water and Sanitation programme who are the major supporters of rural water and sanitation in the country.

Our operations in Papua New Guinea will also be expanding. In addition to our work with Oxfam in the Highlands and Bougainville, we are expanding our programme with local NGO, HELP Resources, in East Sepik province to a further four villages.

We will be seeking additional funding from the $40 million European Union rural water and sanitation project in order to undertake this work. WaterAid will also start to establish a formal presence in Papua New Guinea, which will involve registration with the Papua New Guinean government and setting up an office in Wewak.
