Cyclist and globetrotter Sean Deany is due to set out on stage two of his round the world 'Cape to Cape' cycling tour to raise money for WaterAid.
Sean's world bicycle tour will cover nearly 19,000 km from South East Cape, Tasmania, to Cape Finisterre, Spain, over three stages.
Stage one from Melbourne to Darwin was completed in 2002, Sean will now embark on stage two of the tour, from Singapore to Cape Finisterre in Spain, via Asia and Southern Europe. This stage will cover 13,581 km over 14 months, through 19 countries.
"I love adventurous travel and get great enjoyment out of it, but I strongly felt after I finished part one of the tour that I needed to do it for a responsible charity," Sean said.
"I was very careful in searching for a conscientious NGO and when I learnt about WaterAid I was most impressed by their work on such an important issue, as water is life for everyone on the planet. WaterAid's vision to help the world's poorest people be self-sufficient was another key reason behind my trust and enthusiasm for the charity."
Sean hopes his Cape to Cape tour will promote cycling as a form of environmentally sustainable transport and he practices what he preaches by generating his own power for charging batteries through his purpose-built bicycle.
