On the 14th April 2009, WaterAid Australia officially received full “Accreditation” from AusAID, Australia’s Federal Department for Aid and Development.

The accreditation means that Australian Aid to the world's poorest people will be implemented through WaterAid Australia. This is an overwhelming vote of confidence from the Australian Government and demonstrates that WaterAid’s systems and models are and well-recognised within the Australian NGO sector.

WaterAid Australia’s supporters can be proud of the role they have played in bringing our young organisation to this milestone.  “Applying for AusAID accreditation is a notoriously complex and lengthy process,” says Peter Dwan, Head of WaterAid Australia's International Programs, "but we were confident entering into this process, thanks to security we had from our generous supporter base here in Australia.”

Not only does the accreditation mean that WaterAid can now continue its exciting work delivering real, practical and sustainable solutions to those in developing countries living without access to safe water and sanitation but it will also allow WaterAid access to Australia’s $3.8 Billion Annual Aid budget.

WaterAid continues to play a role in ensuring the government meets its commitment to deliver $300million in aid specifically focused on for Water and Sanitation in the Asia Pacific region.
