Yarra Valley Water and Sanitation Survey ResultsLast year WaterAid in Australia asked Yarra Valley Water customers to complete a survey about the international water and sanitation crisis. The results are now in. It is pleasing to see that 98 per cent of people agree that access to clean, safe water is a basic human right. Most people correctly answered that 1.4 million children die every year from diarrhoea caused by unclean water and poor sanitation. Sadly, diarrhoea kills more children each year than measles, malaria and HIV/AIDS combined. For detailed information you can download our report, Tackling the Silent Killer.
Just 26% knew that 884 million people in the developing world lack clean, safe water. If you answered that one correctly, congratulations. To the question, "What do you think is the most important water issue internationally?", the largest number of people answered climate change. Click here to read about WaterAid's response to this very significant issue. Thank you very much to the 1,500 people who took the time to complete the survey. WaterAid now has a greater understanding of how the Australian public feels about the international water and sanitation crisis.
