WaterAid Bangladesh is pleased to welcome Dr Khairul Islam, who joins us this month as Country Representative.

Trained in public health, Dr Islam began his career with the Bangladeshi Government, before moving to the development sector.

His extensive experience includes over 12 years of senior management experience in national and international NGOs such as Plan International Bangladesh, Grameen Trust and ORBIS International.

Most recently, as Regional Programme Support Manager with Plan, Dr Islam played a key role developing the organisation's water and sanitation programme. He led water and sanitation efforts, including Community Led Total Sanitation, in 12 countries in the region.

In 2003, Dr Islam was a member of the National Sanitation Task Force on Divisional Planning, formed by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development in Bangladesh. In the same year, he was also a member of the organizing committee of the first South Asian Conference on Sanitation (SACOSAN), held in Dhaka.
