Magourou community says 'no!' to open air defecation
Magourou, this small community located in Garango Local Government, Central East region of Burkina Faso is like all other villages of this country, the difference and peculiarity here being that every single compound owns at one latrine.
This is rather rare in a country where sanitation coverage is only 10% and 14% respectively in rural and urban area.

World Toilet Day celebrations
Following the success of last year's World Toilet Day, the Government of Burkina Faso made 19 November 2007 an official day of celebration.
This year, the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Fisheries even took the lead and WaterAid succeeded in mobilising and sensitising many people on sanitation issues with events on the day.

WaterAid Burkina Faso launches new strategy
WaterAid has developed six strategic aims for meeting the Millennium Development Goals target of extended water and sanitation provision. The strategies outline specific and measurable targets for building infrastructure, lobbying and raising awareness over the next five years.

Further funding needed to meet Millennium Development Goal
Although water coverage in Burkina Faso has increased from 39% to 51% since 1990, current levels of funding fall significantly short of what is needed to fulfill the goal of halving the proportion of people without access to safe water and sanitation by 2015.
