WaterAid Burkina Faso started its work in February 2001 with three partners: Sahel Solidarité (SASO); DAKUPA and Association les Mains Unies du Sahel (AMUS) in the departments of Bokin, Garango and Ramongo.
Wateraid has since undertaken projects with other organisations including: CREPA Burkina; VARENA ASSO; Action Micro Barrages (AMB) and EMESA (Environnement, Mobilisation de l'Eau et Sécurité Alimentaire).
SAHEL SOLIDARITE
Sahel Solidarité (SASO) was created in 1973 to help urban and rural groups manage their own development process. The organisation implements a WaterAid funded project that provides water, hygiene and sanitation services to about 37, 500 people. It operates from its head office in the department of Bokin.

DAKUPA
DAKUPA was created in 1996. This NGO is comprised of farmers' associations in the provinces of Boulgou and Koulpélogo. DAKUPA intervention fields include the environment and food security, rural water supply, community health, women's socio-economic development and capacity building of farmer organisation members. Among others, they run a project jointly funded by UNICEF and WaterAid to create links between school and communities on access to water, hygiene and sanitation in Koulpélogo and Kompienga provinces.

ASSOCIATION LES MAINS UNIES DU SAHEL
Association les Mains Unies du Sahel was created in 1992 to organise, mobilise and train farmer groups and to raise funds for them at international level. AMUS intervention areas include the provinces of Boulkiemdé, Sissili, Sanguié and Passoré. AMUS works on desertification control, building farmer group capacity, literacy, rural water supply, low grounds development, education and health.

CREPA - BURKINA
CREPA Burkina is a non-governmental and non-profit-making organisation that acts as a reference and resource centre for water and sanitation. Supported by WaterAid Burkina Faso, CREPA Burkina is implementing two projects that improve the Sigh-Noghin communities' living conditions by ensuring their access to safe water and sanitation facilities, including a project funded by the British embassy.

VARENA ASSO
Originally an agricultural NGO, VARENA ASSO (Association pour la Valorisation des Ressources Naturelles par l'Autopromotion) has moved towards the water, hygiene and sanitation sector in partnership with WaterAid. Together they started a project in five villages in the department of Dano: Bolembar, Gnikpière, Soriane, Gbagba and Dano Guelgane. In these villages, VARENA ASSO and WaterAid also work in partnership with an American NGO known as "Echoes of Ancestors"

ACTION MICRO BARRAGE (AMB)
AMB (Action Micro Barrages) was created in 1973 to improve the living conditions of rural communities. AMB is based in Koudougou works in the provinces of Boulkiemdé and Sanguié. The organisation principally works on the water, agriculture, literacy and credit needs of rural communities. Their other partners comprise of Belgian organisations such as Terre Nouvelle, Défi Belgique Afrique (DBA) and SOS Layettes. AMB is member of SADIO group in West Africa.

EMESA
EMESA (Environnement, Mobilisation de l'Eau et Sécurité Alimentaire) was created in 2001 and is based in Saaba. Its intervention areas include environment, hydraulics, agriculture, breeding, credit and health. EMESA works in the province of Kadiogo, predominantly in the regions of Komki-Ipala, Pabré, Saaba and Tanghin Dassouri. Its partners comprise Belgian organisations like Terre Nouvelle, Helpende Handen and SOS Layettes, and WaterAid. EMESA is member of SADIO group in West Africa.
