WaterAid Burkina Faso supports poor and marginalised people to meet their basic water and sanitation needs. WaterAid starts by identifying the structural cause of people's poverty and then supports them to take forward their own development process so that they can benefit from their share of natural resources.

WaterAid Burkina Faso implements its projects through seven local partner NGOs and associations. It provides these partners with financial and technical help and are support them to build their capacities.

They work directly with communities to set priorities and plan, implement and monitor development projects. Once these partners become autonomous, Wateraid can seek out new funding sources and donors to replicate similar projects in other areas.

How we work

WaterAid works in the water and sanitation sector through three main groups:

  • Policy makers - administrators of the sector at the executive, legislative and judicial level
  • Users or the communities - rural and urban
  • Sector professionals - civil society, the donor community, the private sector and local and international financial institutions and development agencies.
