WaterAid Ethiopia

WaterAid is an international charity dedicated to helping people escape the stranglehold of poverty and disease caused by living without safe water and sanitation.

WaterAid works in partnership with local organisations in 17 countries across Africa, Asia and the Pacific region.

WaterAid also works to influence governments' water and sanitation policies to serve the interests of vulnerable people.

Making the Links

A joint case study by WaterAid Ethiopia and Progynist maps the relationship between water, hygiene, sanitation and HIV/AIDS.

Water Works

Nine years on from its conception, Robe Malliyu Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion Project has evolved into a community-owned and managed scheme serving a population of at least 70,000 in 13 villages, as well as the sizeable town of Robe and two small rural towns. Although the scheme still faces challenges, broadly-speaking it is a considerable success. Everyone has access to safe water, the system is sustainable, sanitation coverage is steadily growing and hygiene awerness is relatively high. Above all, the rural community is supplying water to the urban community.
