WaterAid Ghana

WaterAid is an internation Non-Governmental Organisation whose mission is to overcome poverty by enabling the world's poorest people to gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education.

New Energy, a WaterAid partner, has been voted the best NGO in the Tamale Metropolis. The award is in recognition of their role in collaborating with the Metropolitan Assembly in its development efforts over years.

Shukura initiates dialogue on water through 'community scorecard'

Shukura, a urban poor community in the Accra Metropolitan Area, approximate population 40,000, has met with Ghana Water Company and Aqua Vitens Rand (AVRL), producers and managers of urban water supply in Ghana respectively, on water service delivery. The meeting followed a 'community scorecard' event in 2009 to assess the level and quality of water services.

Activities includes a symposium, street procession and quiz. All the activities were held around the global theme: "Shared Waters, Shared Opportunities." WaterAid in Ghana joined in the national celebrations.

The media are critical partners in our global mission to influence policy in favour of poor and the marginalised people. The network should maximise its potential to help WaterAid by increasing the quality of coverage on water and sanitation issues.

Water and sanitation conference captures media attention

World Toilet Day Ghana banner and press conference speakerOn World Toilet Day a press conference organised by CONIWAS – the coalition of NGOs working with water and sanitation – captured the media's imagination.

The press conference, which saw massive participation by over 20 media houses in Accra, raised awareness about the importance of safe sanitation and called for key actions to improve the situation in Ghana.

Local Government commits to water and sanitation

Local government commits to water and sanitation WaterAid and its partners have signed a formal agreement to forge a closer working relationship with local government.

The agreement, a Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), involves eleven district assemblies in Ghana and spells out the responsibilities when planning and implementing District Water and Sanitation Plans and rooted advocacy.
