A three day training workshop on Technology Assessment Framework (TAF) by WASHtech is underway in WaterAid Ghana office in Accra. The main goal of the TAF is to offer systematic and robust support to assess sustainability and applicability of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) technology in a specific context.
This technology targets national and local governments, NGOs, research institutions, users of WASH services, private sector operatives and the academia.
Vinny Casey, Technical Support Unit (WaterAid in UK), Jesse Coffie Danku, WaterAid in Ghana, and Andre Olschewski, SKAT Foundation in Switzerland, are leading the training.
The eight participants are mainly the Ghana WASHtech consortium partners from TREND Group (IRC, Resource Centre Network), Kwame Nkrumah, University of Technlogy. Ghana, Uganda and Burkinafasso are the three countries involved in this project.
In the next three days, participants will discuss the screening sheet and data collection procedures, undertake initial field testing of data collection sheet and look at general procedures and processes of the technology application. Among the initial selected technologies to test include Biofil, Rope Pump, Indian Mark, Pour flush and eninno loo.

WaterAid is keen to work with global partners, government agencies development partners and communities (IRC, Cranfield University, WaterAid, Skat Foundation, CREPA) to facilitate the “scaling” of successful technologies for the benefit of poor and marginalized people.
It is hoped that the outcome will eventually translate into many poor people having access to WASH services.
