ProNet is located in Accra with another office in Wa in the Upper West Region. The Accra office, which focuses mainly on capacity building and training, operates in the Greater Accra Region and is currently piloting water and sanitation projects in the region.
History
ProNet was established in 1994 as a charity in development in Accra. Its activities were later extended to the Upper West Region to engage in water and sanitation projects. Soon after its creation, ProNet became a WaterAid partner in the implementation of water, sanitation and hygiene promotion projects.
Activities
ProNet engages mainly in water, sanitation, hygiene promotion, advocacy, education, capacity building, research and development.
Achievements
ProNet has supported the construction and promoted the use of more than 170 hand dug wells benefiting more than a hundred thousand people in the Upper West Region. In addition, with support from WaterAid and other organisations, ProNet has supported the construction and promoted the use of more than 350 household and institutional latrines in the Upper West Region. Again, the organisation trains 20 latrine artisans, 15 water and sanitation committees and five area-based volunteers on the average each year.
Another remarkable achievement by ProNet is its key role in the organisation of the Mole Conference Series. The organisation served as the main organiser from 1995 to 2002. Currently, the Executive Director of ProNet, Ben Arthur, is the President of the Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Water and Sanitation, a child borne out of the Mole Series in 2003. The Mole Series have, since 1989, provided a national forum for the sharing of ideas on water and sanitation.
