BACH

Binaba Area Community Health Project

Location and districts covered
BACH is located in Binaba in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region. It operates mainly in the Bawku West District. It has a vision of a better life for the people of the Upper East and a mission of improving the quality of life of the Bawku West District and surrounding areas through the provision of programmes aimed at providing access to potable water, hygiene information, sanitation facilities and income generation activities.

History
With a mission to assist the people of the Binaba area to improve upon their standard of living, BACH was created in 1987.

The organisation initially focused on assisting women and children to improve upon their health status through preventive health educational programmes and the provision of credit to women for micro enterprise development.

The provision of water, sanitation, and hygiene promotion was later added to their activities to concretise the health benefits the communities derived from their activities.

Activities and achievements
The main activities of BACH are water, sanitation, hygiene promotion, advocacy, preventative and micro credit. The organisation has supported the construction of about 235 wells, 103 household Ventilated Improved Pit (VIP) latrines, and formation of 205 water and sanitation committees. About 764 women have also benefited from the organisation's income generation activities.
