Team Leader, Rwanda

Based in Kigali

Help us realise our vision of a world where everyone has access to safe water and sanitation. You will establish WaterAid’s presence in Rwanda and develop a strong programme to promote and secure poor people’s rights and access to safe water, improved hygiene and sanitation through direct services and influencing work.

You will be a superb leader skilled at building and developing high performing teams and individuals. You will have an impressive background in senior level programme management and demonstrable financial management skills. Knowledgeable about social, economic and political issues in Rwanda, you will have a track record of working with INGOs, local and national government, donors and partners and demonstrate effective influencing skills. This post reports to the Head of East Africa Region and is offered on a 2-year fixed-term contract.
 
Key accountabilities

  • Establish WaterAid’s presence in the water and sanitation sector within Rwanda, and develop WaterAid Rwanda’s strategic thinking on programmes, policy and learning
  • Represent WaterAid and maintain strong relationships in the sector, and build the capacity of partner organisations.
  • Recruit and induct the team; lead, manage and motivate them, ensuring that they are managed effectively by having clear objectives, regular supervision and feedback; promoting a working culture that is supportive, empowering and collaborative,
  • Ensure the successful delivery of work plans and budgets,
  • Manage and monitor income and expenditure budget for strategic plans, as well as ensure effective financial controls are implemented and monitored in compliance with WaterAid global policy
  • Participate in mobilising funds from donor agencies
  • Contribute effectively as an active member of the East Africa Regional Management Team

Essential

  • Degree or professional qualification in a relevant subject,
  • Solid experience of programme management at senior level
  • Ability to think analytically and strategically, work independently, and consistently meet deadlines
  • Ability to lead financial and budgeting processes and ensure high level of accountability to all stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate clearly in both spoken and written English
  • Proven ability to lead and manage a team and to work with people from a variety of backgrounds
  • Proven experience of influencing, negotiating and networking with a variety of stakeholders,
  • Experience of working in development in Rwanda, and a commitment to sustainable development
  • A strong commitment to integrating Equity and Inclusion into programme work and employment practices
  • Empowering management style, willingness to learn from others and a commitment to WaterAid’s approach and value
