The World Walks for Water and Sanitation is a global event demanding action to address the world’s largest crisis – water and sanitation. WaterAid teams and offices from around the world will be supporting the event so why not join us!

Hundreds of thousands of people will take to the streets later this month to join in the annual The World Walks for Water and Sanitation. The global event takes place 16 - 24 March 2013 and is being supported by WaterAid teams and offices around the world.

In 2012, an amazing 380,000 people in more than 70 countries joined The World Walks for Water and Sanitation campaign to demand that politicians in the North and South step up their efforts to protect the right to water and sanitation.

Politicians responded by making promises locally, nationally, regionally and globally to get clean water and sanitation to the world’s poorest countries and communities. This year’s event will focus on making sure they follow through with them as part of the Keep Your Promises campaign. Nearly 135,000 people have already signed up to join the World Walk for Water and Sanitation 2013 and we want you to get involved by organising a Walk or joining one near you!

How can you get involved?

Walk in solidarity with the women and children forced to walk such long distances and hours just to collect water or find a safe place to go to the toilet. Tell politicians that words are not enough! Organise, or join, a walk during World Water Day (22 March 2013), any time between 16 - 24 March 2013.

Whether you're part of a university, school, youth group, charity, Civil Society Organisation or company – whoever you are, you can get involved. Your walk can take place anywhere, with any amount of people and be of any distance – it's that easy. Dress up as taps and toilets, dance, sing, invite celebrities – whatever you do, make sure you have as much fun as possible!

Keep Your Promises

The year long Keep Your Promises campaign, launched in November 2012, and calls on decision makers to stick to the commitments they have made to end the sanitation and water crisis. WaterAid teams and offices have already got behind the campaign by holding hearings with politicians to follow up on their progress on improving access to clean water and sanitation and asking them to honour their water and sanitation commitments.
