WaterAid has welcomed the appointment of His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan Bin Talal of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan as the new Chairman of the UN Secretary General's Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation (UNSGAB).

Barbara Frost, WaterAid chief executive, said:

"I want to join Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon in thanking the former Chairman His Majesty Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands for his personal commitment and dedication to the cause of bringing safe water and sanitation to the world's poorest people."

"I am sure that the new Chairman will bring further energy to ending the sanitation and water crisis by joining up with other global platforms on WASH such as Sanitation and Water for All to help to lead the international community to bring water and sanitation to the poorest and most marginalised people in the world so that we reach everyone, everywhere by 2030."

UNSGAB is an independent body established in March 2004 by then United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan to give him advice and to galvanize action on water and sanitation issues. The board is made up of current and former government ministers and leaders in water and sanitation from across the world.
