This year WaterAid Timor-Leste worked in Likisà and Manufahi Municipalities with seven local partner organisations to deliver access to safe water to 2,672 men, women and children living in 21 rural communities, with work on water supplies for a further three communities due to be complete before the end of June 2016. We have also delivered access to sanitation and hygiene education to 3,359 men, women and children in the same 24 communities, with 20 communities verified as Open Defecation Free by the local government.

WaterAid Cambodia was established in 2014 and the first year of activities centred on setting up WaterAid’s presence in the country. This annual review, covering the period from April 2015 to March 2016 (FY16), documents progress in the second full year of operations. FY16 is the first year of a three year ‘development phase’ in which WaterAid seeks to determine its thematic focus and ways of working in Cambodia.

Community-led total sanitation (CLTS) is a popular approach to increasing sanitation coverage. CLTS is often understood to be more suitable for small, rural and homogeneous communities, however it is also considered an appropriate solution for more urbanised areas. This brief provides quantitative evidence to support this and bring forward a simple rule of thumb that allows more efficient programme targeting.

During its first year of operations in Cambodia in 2014, WaterAid conducted a WASH and Health scoping study to identify entry points for integration between these two sectors. The areas of WASH in healthcare facilities and integration between WASH and nutrition programing emerged as the two priorities.
