popup_image.gifMillions of children suffer terrible problems as a result of unclean water or a lack of water. Their health and education are directly affected by the water their families have to drink, cook and wash with everyday.

In many countries, children as young as ten, especially girls, are responsible for collecting water. These children often carry up to 20 litres of dirty water in a pot or bucket on their head. Carrying water is not only hard work but takes lots of time and means the girls don't have the time to go to school. The water can also make them ill.

One sixth of the world’s population (1.1bn people) is short of fresh, clean drinking water. WaterAid’s goal is to make sure that people all over the world have access to safe water and sanitation.
