Meet Chandra

| "Hello! I'm Chandra" |
|
Hi! My name is Chandra, I am 10 years old and I live in Madhya Pradesh, which is in the west of India.
WaterAid and its partners have been working in our area of the city for two years, and life for everyone here has got much better. We now have a handpump providing clean water just 10 minutes from my house. We also have new child-friendly toilets, which are not as dark and scary as the old ones.
Family
In my family there is mum and dad, one younger sister and an older brother. Mum has trained as a handpump mechanic, so that if the pump breaks there is someone who knows how to fix it. She says this is a very important job and we are all proud of her.
It's harvest time!
My dad has been growing lots of vegetables since we got a composting toilet, and he is very busy at the moment because it's harvest time. He sells the fruit and vegetables at the market, so now we have a bit more money.
School
In school we learn about hygiene, especially washing our hands and keeping the toilets clean. When I get home I tell my family what I have learnt.
I am in a group of children who teach adults about good hygiene.

Hobbies
Since we've had safe water and clean toilets me and my friends are healthier and we have more time to do the things we enjoy - like playing football and cricket!
You could use your hobbies to raise money for children like Amina and Chandra! Have a look at our fundraising ideas and how you can help!
