Amina and Chandra explain what WaterAid is doing to help them and children just like them...

Amina: Last year people from WaterAid visited my community. They asked us to draw a map showing all the important places in our village.

They worked with a local organisation and our community to build some wells. We used materials from our local area so that we could replace them easily if we needed to.

Everyone got involved, which is good because now the wells really feel like they belong to us and we know how to repair them if they break!

WaterAid is also trying to make our government promise they will put money towards water projects. They are trying to change government policy.

Chandra: That sounds brilliant! WaterAid is working in my town too. They are working with our community and a local organisation to build proper toilets and teach people that they should wash their hands after using them.

We were asked about the type of toilets we would like. Everyone had different ideas!

Us kids didn't want to use toilets with a roof on because some of us get scared by the dark. The adults wanted toilets with walls and a roof so that they were more private.

So now we're building both to keep everyone happy!
