Young Wallasey girl makes waves in support of WaterAid

Last month, ten year old Olivia from Wallasey, swam a mile in aid of WaterAid.

Olivia's original fundraising target was £100, but thanks to her hard efforts, she has so far raised twenty times as much!

Olivia said, "I saw WaterAid on the television and it was really moving. It made me think seriously that we all have enough but people in poorer societies don't.

"Initially, my aim was to raise £100, but people's generosity has made this almost £2,000. I feel that the money raised is going to a very worthwhile cause, especially as 5,000 children die every day of water related diseases."

Olivia, also a keen singer and performer, swam her 64-length mile in an incredible 50 minutes. She said, "If I, a 10 year old, can go out and swim a mile and raise this much money, then what could others do to make a difference? The one mile swim was hard, but I thought about the people I was saving and it wasn't nearly as bad."

WaterAid's Charlotte Biddle said, "We are all unbelievably impressed by Olivia's determination and hard work. The money she has raised will help over 130 people gain access to safe water and sanitation - an incredible achievement. Well done Olivia!"
