WaterAid Uganda's vision is of a world where everyone has access to safe drinking water and effective sanitation. The mission is to overcome poverty by enabling Uganda's poorest people to gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education.
Realising the vision
Over the last 50 years, enormous gains have been made in the provision of clean water and sanitation throughout the developing world. Infant mortality has been halved and twice as many people have access to safe drinking water compared to 30 years ago.
There are plenty of grounds for hope, but the problems that remain are extensive and there is still much to be done.
WaterAid is committed to addressing the need for safe water and sanitation head on. It aims to increase its impact directly through its partner organisations on the ground but also works indirectly by influencing other key players and promoting best practice.
On the ground WaterAid helps local organisations set up low cost water and sanitation projects using technology that can be managed by the community itself.
On a higher level WaterAid works to influence the policies of other key organisations, such as governments, to secure and protect the rights of poor people to access safe and affordable water and sanitation services.
