WaterAid Uganda

WaterAid is an international charity dedicated to helping people escape from poverty and disease caused by living without safe water and sanitation. WaterAid works in Uganda to help establish sustainable water supplies and latrines and to influence government policy to serve the interests of vulnerable people.

Joint sector review 2007

The AMCOW AfricaSan Awards are dedicated to recognising outstanding efforts and achievements in sanitation and hygiene in Africa which results in large scale, sustainable behaviour changes and tangible impacts.

Winners were announced during the Second African Water Week held from 9-13 November 2009 in South Africa.

WaterAid contributes to the Uganda Water and Environment Joint Sector Review

Every financial year, the Government of Uganda together with sector development partners and other stakeholders conduct the annual Joint Sector Review as a key consultative arrangement for implementation of a Sector Wide Approach to Planning in the water and environment sector.

This year the review meeting was held between 14–16 October 2009 at the Speke Resort Munyonyo on the shores of Lake Victoria under the theme "Sector preparedness to mitigate environmental challenges".

Global Hand Washing Day in Uganda

Thursday 15 October 2009 marks the second Global Hand Washing Day, after a successful inaugural day was celebrated in 2008.

WaterAid has been proudly involved in planning and executing this year's Global Hand Washing Day in Uganda.

WaterAid supporters visit Uganda

People commune near open sewerWaterAid in Uganda hosted supporters from the UK for a week in September 2008, touring areas in the districts of Kampala, Mpigi and Masindi.

The trip focussed on comparing areas with poor water and sanitation and WaterAid project areas.

Sanitation campaign launch

Photo credit: WaterAid/Libby Clarke Uganda's sanitation campaign was opened in Kampala by Honourable Maria Mutagamba, Minister of Water and Environment.

The coalition campaign, of which WaterAid is an active member, aims to achieve its goal of total sanitation in Uganda by seizing political support. The campaign leaders, working under the slogan 'Good sanitation. Better living.' reiterated the importance of political involvement.

Uganda country strategy 2006 - 2011

Uganda country strategy 2006-2011WaterAid's Uganda country strategy 2006 to 2011 paper sets out the organisation’s vision and mission, and outlines its strategic objectives, key aims and indicators of achievement.

The paper stresses the need for a strong programme based approach. WaterAid in Uganda believes that the most effective way to
sustainably improve access to water and sanitation is to work with and through existing Ugandan organisations.
