Sanitation song winner
Kid Fox from Radio West, a radio station in western Uganda, won the 2007 sanitation song competition with their multi-lingual rap filled with hygiene education messages.
In the lead up to Sanitation Week 2007, WaterAid and partners launched a sanitation song competition.
To enter, people were asked to compose a song about sanitation issues to win a recording deal and a share of 5,000,000 USh in cash.
In the song, Kid Fox raps in Lugandan and Kwishahili about sanitation, including messages about the danger of defecating in the bush, that people should stop littering the streets and the importance of keeping your house 100% clean. The last stanza is in English with a Jamaican twist.
The runner-up was Baby Chris from Open Gates FM in Mbale. The studio production of the winning song is currently underway and, when completed, Akright Projects will host a media event with WaterAid and the National Sanitation Working Group where they hand over the cash prize of UGX 5,000,000 to the lucky winners.
