WaterAid in Uganda hosted supporters from the UK between 2-9 September 2008 touring both projects and potential project areas in the districts of Kampala, Mpigi and Masindi.

Kampala, Uganda's capital city, was the first point of call. With a high population and poor water and sanitation facilities, particularly in slums, the group saw the open sewers, unsafe water sources, poor toilet facilities and waste disposal which all contribute to frequent local cases of cholera, dysentery and malaria. The trip also included visits to rainwater harvesting areas, eco-san toilets and waterpoint mapping projects.

The trip focussed on comparing areas with poor water and sanitation and WaterAid project areas. The stark difference shocked the group as the health benefits of the projects became utterly transparent.

The poverty levels and lack of access to clean and safe water and adequate sanitation deeply touched the visitors, who reiterated their commitment to continue supporting future work.
