WaterAid works in partnership with Uganda Water and Sanitation NGO Network, government insititutions, and local NGOs. WaterAid assists partners to build capacity so that local organisations are in a position to increase coverage and sustain the provision of clean water, sanitation facilities and hygiene promotion in the long term. Uganda Water and Sanitation Network of NGOs (UWASNET)The Uganda Water and Sanitation Network of NGOs (UWASNET) is a network of NGOs and community based organisations (CBOs) working in the water and sanitation sector in Uganda. Founded in June 2001, UWASNET aims to strengthen the co-ordination, collaboration and networking of NGOs and CBOs with other stakeholders in the water and sanitation sector in Uganda. UWASNET achieves its goal through advocacy and lobbying, maintaining a database of NGOs and CBOs, building the capacity of member organisations, promoting networking and collaboration and providing advisory services. Their vision is to contribute to poverty alleviation by increasing access to safe water and improved sanitation through effective co-ordination of NGOs and CBOs in Uganda. Email: ngocoord@uwsnet.org Website: www.uwasnet.org Local NGOsUganda Rain Water Association (URWA) The vision of the association is to contribute to improved quality of life of the people in Uganda through effective management and use of rainwater. Their mission is to promote sustainable rainwater management as an option for domestic water supply and production, to use rainwater to benefit environmental conservation and to improve the quality of life of beneficiaries in Uganda. URWA shares information, skills and experiences with communities to help them mobilise themselves to improve their socio-economic situations. The major focus of community support has been rainwater harvesting for domestic water supply. URWA works closely with the Directorate of Water Development (DWD), for policy guidance and direction. Email: urwa@infocom.co.ug Community Integrated Development Initiatives (CIDI) CIDI's vision is to bring about improved quality of life to people in the target areas and its mission is to facilitate and provide services aimed at improving living conditions in the local communities in which it operates by supporting programmes that promote poverty reduction and its attendant effects. It undertakes technical support supervision with a view to strengthening capacity amongst the environmental health workers in the districts. With support from the UK's Department for International Development's civil society umbrella programme, CSUP, WaterAid works with the the Environmental Health Division to scale up the Kampala Declaration on Sanitation in three Districts. WaterAid Uganda also works with the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) which plans health programmes, sanitation facilities and hygiene in schools. |
