WaterAid works with a range of NGOs and government departments.

WaterAid works in partnership with Uganda Water and Sanitation NGO Network, government insititutions, and local NGOs. WaterAid assists partners to build capacity so that local organisations are in a position to increase coverage and sustain the provision of clean water, sanitation facilities and hygiene promotion in the long term.

Uganda Water and Sanitation Network of NGOs (UWASNET)

The Uganda Water and Sanitation Network of NGOs (UWASNET) is a network of NGOs and community based organisations (CBOs) working in the water and sanitation sector in Uganda. Founded in June 2001, UWASNET aims to strengthen the co-ordination, collaboration and networking of NGOs and CBOs with other stakeholders in the water and sanitation sector in Uganda.

UWASNET achieves its goal through advocacy and lobbying, maintaining a database of NGOs and CBOs, building the capacity of member organisations, promoting networking and collaboration and providing advisory services. Their vision is to contribute to poverty alleviation by increasing access to safe water and improved sanitation through effective co-ordination of NGOs and CBOs in Uganda.

Local NGOs

Uganda Rain Water Association (URWA)
Uganda Rain Water Association (URWA) was formed in 1997 to raise the profile of rainwater management and use in all development sectors in Uganda. The association is a membership organisation and currently has approximately 95 members consisting of individuals, organisations and institutions.

The vision of the association is to contribute to improved quality of life of the people in Uganda through effective management and use of rainwater. Their mission is to promote sustainable rainwater management as an option for domestic water supply and production, to use rainwater to benefit environmental conservation and to improve the quality of life of beneficiaries in Uganda.

URWA shares information, skills and experiences with communities to help them mobilise themselves to improve their socio-economic situations. The major focus of community support has been rainwater harvesting for domestic water supply. URWA works closely with the Directorate of Water Development (DWD), for policy guidance and direction.

Community Integrated Development Initiatives (CIDI)
Community Integrated Development Initiatives (CIDI) is a local NGO that was founded in 1996 to initiate and implement projects aimed at alleviating poverty in the local communities in which it operates. 

CIDI's vision is to bring about improved quality of life to people in the target areas and its mission is to facilitate and provide services aimed at improving living conditions in the local communities in which it operates by supporting programmes that promote poverty reduction and its attendant effects.

Bugosa Trust
The Bugosa Trust is a local non-governmental organisation with a mission to reduce poverty through improved and sustainable water supply and sanitation in the seven districts of Jinja, Iganga, Kamuli, Bugiri, Mayuge, Luwero, and Nakasongola. Its objective is to provide improved and sustainable water supply, sanitation services and encourage good hygiene practices amongst the rural poor communities. The organisation is mainly engaged in construction of water sources, development of community capacity, analysis of physiochemical and bacteriological water quality, rehabilitation of water supply facilities and capacity building.

Wera Development Association (WEDA)
The Wera Development Association's (WEDA) mission is to improve the welfare of the people in Teso region. The association's vision is to improve the welfare of people in education, health (including HIV/AIDS) and water.

Its strategies include providing functional education (technical school); improving the health of the people (especially malaria, TB, dysentery) by providing clean and safe water services, providing a health centre with facilities and supporting people with income generating activities.

The Youth Initiative For Development Association  (YIFODA)
The Youth Initiative For Development Association is locally-based NGO working in Wakiso and Kiboga districts. YIFODA has a vision of a healthy Ugandan community with equal opportunities. Its mission is to contribute towards sustainable livelihood of Ugandan communities, strengthening community capacity in lobbying and advocacy.

Government departments of Uganda
The Directorate of Water Development (DWD) is the leading government agency in the water and sanitation sector under the Ministry of Water, Lands and Environment (MWLE). DWD works to promote co-coordinated, integrated and sustainable water resources and provision of water for all social and economic activities.

The Environmental Health Division of the Ministry of Health is the lead division for household sanitation promotion in Uganda. It undertakes technical support supervision with a view to strengthening capacity amongst the environmental health workers in the districts. With support from the UK's Department for International Development's civil society umbrella programme, CSUP, WaterAid works with the the Environmental Health Division to scale up the Kampala Declaration on Sanitation in three Districts.

WaterAid Uganda also works with the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) which plans health programmes, sanitation facilities and hygiene in schools.
