Oasis Spring/ Summer 2011Oasis magazine

Our magazine Oasis is produced twice a year. Each issue contains features on our work in Africa, Asia and the Pacific region, plus news and campaign updates.

In our latest edition you can read:

  • Welcome from WaterAid's chief executive, Barbara Frost
  • Bihar - becoming a pioneer state - Bihar is one of the poorest and most populous Indian states and has been known for its low sanitation coverage. But in recent years, the state government has gone full steam ahead to achieve universal sanitation coverage by 2012.
  • Barbara interviews... Andrew Mitchell - Our Chief Executive Barbara Frost discusses the UK Government's approach to tackling the water and sanitation crisis and getting public money to those most in need.
  • Read all about it - Taps and toilets are making headline news in Pakistan, thanks to WaterAid's innovative Young Journalist Programme, reports Sarah Pyke.
  • Birth rights - In Mutinta's village of Singonya there is just one well to serve 23 households and no safe or hygienic toilets.
  • A day in the life - Fatoumata Haidara is WaterAid's Country Representative in Mali. She has been working for WaterAid since 2006. Here she describes a typical day.

Appeals and updates

Wear what you choose logo

Communications like this are vital in informing you of where your support goes and the people you reach, while ensuring we can continue our lifesaving work through your donations.

What better way to celebrate the end of term than by letting the kids ditch their ties and blazers for the day and wear what they choose for taps and loos!
You could even host a wacky wellies day or a water themed fancy dress day and encourage the kids to get creative.

By charging a small donation for the privilege, we can enable some of the world's poorest children gain access to taps and loos.

In Madagascar, not having access to clean water and sanitation is a terrible problem. Valy used to have to walk for miles to get water for her family, which was dirty and unsafe to drink.

Now she and her classmates have clean water close by and somewhere safe and hygienic to go to the toilet.

Current appeal:  Wear what you choose for taps and loos

Events information

Throughout the year individuals, companies, schools and community groups take part in, or organise, a whole range of events to raise money for WaterAid - from running to singing, climbing to dancing, or even racing rubber ducks!

We would like to send you invitations to take part in such events, ensuring we can raise funds for our vital work.

  • Our latest events are The Corbett Challenge and Coast Along. These are great fun for individuals who want to spend a weekend away walking or climbing in the hills with their friends, or for companies looking for team-building events for their employees.
