5,000 children die every day as a result of diseases caused by unclean water and poor sanitation. Help WaterAid make a lasting difference to the lives of some of the world's poorest people by making a donation to the New Statesman Christmas Appeal today.

2008 is the UN International Year of Sanitation and in a world where 2.5 billion people still do not have access to sanitation your commitment has never been more crucial.

WaterAid implement appropriate and sustainable water and sanitation projects across Africa and Asia whilst also campaigning for change to the global water and sanitation sector.

Thank you for your support – your donation will go towards WaterAid’s work in Madagascar, targeting a rural community which has extremely low access to water and sanitation. Work will involve supplying safe water, building latrines and educating the villagers about simple hygiene practices.

  • £15 a month, over a year, could rehabilitate a borehole with a pump - providing water for up to 250 people in Zambia.
