A gift in your will

A change can last forever

I think WaterAid is an amazing charity. Of course, it's hard for me not to think of WaterAid as such when I work here every day! The people are passionate about the cause and extremely knowledgeable. The work is lifesaving. The technology is simple and sustainable. Every gift is spent wisely. Best of all, whenever I see photographs of the smiling people who are benefiting, I know that this is what we are achieving thanks to our supporters – people like you.

Our work cannot stop until we realise our vision of a world where everyone has access to safe water and sanitation. That's why I hope you will add a gift in your will to WaterAid. We really do depend on these very special gifts so we can continue our work for generations to come.

What are the options

Every kind of gift is hugely appreciated. You don't need to leave a large sum – a gift in your will no matter how small can make a big impact on our work. Many people choose to leave a residuary gift (a share of an estate) as it usually maintains or increases value over time, but we've had all manner of gifts in the past. One man even left us his bagpipes!

How to word your will

It's really straightforward to include a gift to WaterAid in your will. All you have to do is give your solicitor our registered address and charity numbers which you'll find at the bottom of this web page. That's it. Your solicitor will do the rest, so it really couldn't be easier.

Amending an existing will?

Have you already made a will? You can add WaterAid into your will by completing a codicil and sending it to your solicitor. A codicil is a document on which changes or additions are made to an existing will and must be read in conjunction with it. Download a codicil form (Adobe Acrobat Document PDF 336KB).

If I'm not around then my colleagues, David and Katy will help you however they can. We're only a small team, but we're here all day Monday to Friday. Whatever you decide, thank you so much for taking the time to consider adding WaterAid to your will.

Expressing your last wishes

As you consider how best to care for the needs of your family and those you care about you may also wish to consider expressing your last wishes. As a valued supporter of WaterAid you understand how all gifts can make a lifesaving difference to the communities we work with. Donations in memory or in lieu of flowers can be a wonderful way for family and friends to celebrate and honour your life. If you would like to discuss this please do get in touch with me or look at our Make a Gift In Memory page.

Water is an absolute essential. A gift in my will, however small, contributes to WaterAid's resources – turning my pounds into clean, safe water for people I shall never know. So they, too, will have this basic necessity for life.quote end
