Case study
Payroll Giving at WaterAid
WaterAid encourages employees to take part in Payroll Giving for two main reasons.
- It is a very easy way to donate to charity, and because it is tax effective in costs individual employees less to support the cause they believe in.
- Offering payroll giving to employees allows WaterAid to demonstrate our corporate social responsibility and shows commitment to the causes that our employees care about. All of this helps to make WaterAid a rewarding place to work.
Today, 11% of staff donate via Payroll Giving, which made WaterAid eligible for the Payroll Giving Quality Mark Gold Award - the highest award on offer. We are proud that working at WaterAid also means employees can support a range of great causes.
Rachel Westcott, Director of HR explains:
"We are really pleased at how popular the scheme has been. It is very easy for us to do and moreover, it demonstrates WaterAid's social responsibility and commitment to good causes in the local community and beyond."
What do WaterAid employees think of Payroll Giving?
Cathy Whiteman, Community Fundraiser at WaterAid says:
"It's great to be able to donate to charity via payroll giving - it really is hassle free. In addition, the fact that it is tax effective means that I can afford to give that little bit more."
How have we promoted Payroll Giving?
WaterAid has offered Payroll Giving to employees for a while, but in May 2007 we held a promotion day. Kim Reynolds, HR Advisor responsible for Payroll, explains the benefits of this promotion:
"Promoting payroll giving helps us to make WaterAid a satisfying place to work, which really helps with recruitment and staff morale. It is really easy to set up and we have found it really easy to promote too. We used a professional fundraising organisation, who came in to do a promotion day. They were great- they did all the planning, all the paperwork and answered everyone's questions."
