Above Wythop Mill – North Western fells – Moderate

This is a circular walk from Wythop Village ascending two Wainwrights: Ling Fell and Sale Fell. There are excellent views north over the Solway Firth, the Skiddaw range to the east and down Bassenthwaite.

Around Lords Seat – North Western fells – Moderate

This walk has a steep start before accessing gentle grassy slopes from Barf and on to Lord’s Seat then Broom Fell.  Look out for the white painted pillar of rock, known as the ‘Bishop of Barf’ pillar. There is free parking to access from Powter How near the Swan Hotel, Thornthwaite.

Bakestall – Northern fells – Moderate

Bakestall is the high point of a platform on the northern flank of Skiddaw and is part of its northern approaches. There are stunning views of Dash Falls and the group of mountain peaks known as 'back of Skiddaw'. A place to avoid the crowds.

Blencathra – Northern fells – Moderate

According to Wainwright, Blencathra is one of the grandest objects in the Lake District. Viewed from the east its distinctive saddle shape is seen. The route to the top from Scales on the A66 is perhaps the most popular. All routes permit a view of the Sharp Edge ridge, one of Lakeland's most celebrated tests that is only suitable for the most accomplished walkers.

Graystones & Whinlatter – North Western fells – Moderate

This quiet corner of Lakeland has grassy hills and fine views. Starting near Scawgill Bridge, the route up follows the edge of the forest plantation to the summit of Graystones before a forest and moorland route then takes you to Whinlatter. This walk has great views of the northern and north western lakeland fells, across to the Solway Firth and Scotland, the Irish Sea and if very clear, the Pennines and the Isle of Man.

Hope Gill Head – North Western fells – Moderate

Starting and finishing at Langthwaite near Crummock Water this walk visits the summits of Whiteside and Hopegill Head via a fine ridge walk before descending to Coledale Head and back to the start point by descending through the secluded valley of the Liza Beck.
