This summer, you helped us achieve something remarkable.

Together, 115,056 of you added your name to our Make It Happen petition, to make sure everyone everywhere has access to safe water and sanitation by 2030.

On 15 July, we took your names to the UK Government, to make sure the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) include a target on safe water and sanitation, because we know that – when the SDGs are finalised in September 2015 – the inclusion of this goal could change the lives of the world’s poorest communities.

It could be the first step towards ending preventable deaths caused by drinking dirty water, giving people the chance of a happier, healthier future.

It could signal an end to the long walk for water, which stops so many people – especially girls and women – from going to school, earning a living and achieving their dreams.

And it could ensure that everyone everywhere has a safe, private place to go to the toilet, combating the spread of deadly diseases and ensuring girls can continue with their education, even when they get their period.

With your names behind us, we believe universal access to taps and toilets can be achieved. All we need is the political will to make it happen.
