Your shares could make a big difference – just £15 could provide one person with access to clean, safe water.

Giving shares is a simple and tax-efficient way of making a donation to WaterAid. Not only can you claim full income tax relief on the value of your shares, but no capital gains tax will apply either.

And what's more, if you pay income tax at 40% or 45%, you'll be able to claim income tax relief equal to 40% or 45% of the value of your gift depending on which rate of tax you pay.

Why give shares?

There are lots of reasons why you might give shares to WaterAid, for example:

  • Maybe you own a small bundle of shares, perhaps from an inheritance, that seem to generate more paperwork than income for you.
  • As no capital gains tax applies, you'll be able to maximise your donation to WaterAid with no extra cost to yourself.
  • You hold "windfall" shares as a result of a privatisation or demutualisation that are effectively gathering dust, but could make a huge difference to WaterAid.
  • You're keen to support WaterAid's work, but don't feel in a position to make a cash gift at this point in time.

Whatever your motivation, your support will be crucial to helping us reach everyone everywhere with access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene by 2030.
