Worrying about safe water, taps and toilets is now a thing of the past at Nampongo Primary – and it’s all thanks to schools like yours.

Your incredible support means we’ve been able to work with our local partner, Caritas Livingstone, to install a borehole and new toilet blocks at the school.

With over 400 students and only three classrooms, Nampongo Primary is far from perfect – but one challenge it no longer has to face is a lack of access to clean water and sanitation.

Focusing on the future

For 13-year-old Petronella, this is the first time in her life she hasn’t had to spend hours every day fetching dirty water.

“We no longer have to collect unsafe water from the dam because we have a borehole now,” she says.

The new toilet block also has another benefit – girls will no longer have to drop out of school because of a lack of adequate facilities to manage their period. This means they'll be able to spend more time in class and achieve their potential.

Petronella, Nampongo Primary School, ZambiaSafe water and toilets at school mean Petronella can have a brighter future.

“The new toilet is clean and doesn’t smell – we can even wash our hands after using it too,” says Petronella.

And with access to safe water, taps and toilets, Petronella now has more time to focus on her studies, her future and her aim of becoming a teacher when she’s older.
