World Walks for Water and Sanitation

World Walks for Water and Sanitation 2012
From 17 to 25 March 2012, thousands of people will walk together to demand political change.

The World Walks for Water and Sanitation is a global event demanding action to address the world's biggest crisis.

From 17 to 25 March 2012, thousands of people will walk together to demand political change.

In 2011, an amazing 350,000 people in more than 75 countries, from Kampala to Kathmandu, walked to demand that politicians step up their efforts to protect the right to water and sanitation for all people.

This year, the timing of the World Walks for Water and Sanitation event is crucial: it takes place a month before the Sanitation and Water for All High Level Meeting, when world leaders will meet in Washington DC to discuss what they're going to do to tackle the crisis. It's up to us to make sure they know that the world expects action!

How can you get involved?

You can either organise or join a walk on World Water Day (22 March 2012) or any time between 17 - 25 March. You can walk anywhere, with any number of people and as far as you like – it's that easy.

Give your walk a message – Water Works!

To make sure your walk has an impact, make sure you tell your MP or local media why you're walking. WaterAid's current campaigning message is Water Works. We want to make sure every MP understands that taps and toilets save lives – they're cheap, simple and effective. You can email your MP or you could even invite them to walk with you.

While you're walking

Make sure you stay hydrated on your walk and as you stop for a drink, take the opportunity to collect photos for the Water Works site. We're collecting images to show that we all need clean, safe water. If you need to use the facilities en route, snap those too!
