Campaigning is just one of the ways WaterAid influences change in government policy, in attitudes, in power relations or in the way organisations work. In the UK WaterAid relies on the public to raise awareness of the issues surrounding poor people's lack of access to water and sanitation by supporting its campaigning activities. Campaigning really works and can be an extremely rewarding way to change the world.

A WaterAid campaigner can mean anyone who takes five minutes to send an email or postcard on our behalf, or has more time to promote the campaign locally. Whatever the level of involvement, WaterAid campaigners make a real difference in the lives of the people we work with.

Our campaigning efforts would mean little without our campaigners' active support. One way we ask people to help us is to take five minutes to send an email or postcard to influential politicians.

If people can spare some time they can promote our campaigns locally by running campaign events and contacting the media or even visiting their local MP. One of the best ways of achieving these goals is by working together with others and forming a group. In this way WaterAid's campaigns can have more impact and campaigners can have more fun in the process.

We have campaigner groups in Glasgow, Edinburgh, York, Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester, Bath and Peterborough. To find out what our campaigners have been up to around the UK visit the campaigns news page.
