On Saturday 14 October WaterAid and knitting group I Knit London invited crafty people everywhere to join them in London’s Jubilee Gardens as part of the Knit a river campaign.
The event marked the beginning of National Knitting Week. Participants got the chance to view the river for the first time and learn more about how the campaign is progressing. On the day, some knitters produced blue squares, others brought along squares and some even sewed the blue squares together on the spot.
It was a great opportunity to showcase the river's progress and to get some great photographs. Thanks to all those who were able to make it to Jubilee Gardens on the day and for those of you who sent their best wishes.
Knit a river is a petition with a difference. Contributions of individual knitted blue squares of 15 x 15 cm, any shade or pattern, are requested. The squares are then stitched together to form a wooly river!
Blue squares are pouring in from all over the UK, they have also arrived from New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Canada, Netherlands and America to name a few.
The river will be used as part of WaterAid's campaigning activities – strengthening the call for water and sanitation for all.
