WaterAid campaigning pays off!
At the UN High Level Event in New York in late September, the Dutch and UK governments committed to holding an annual meeting on water and sanitation reviewing progress on meeting these basic human rights.
This is a significant step and one that WaterAid has been calling for as part of the End Water Poverty campaign.
It is thanks to the campaigning actions you have taken over the last year that we have seen this change.
Many of you wrote to Gordon Brown and Ban Ki-moon, sent postcards in their thousands to the Prime Minister of Japan just before the G8 and attended the End Water Poverty rally on 2 July.
Thank you! Together, we've taken an important step to end water poverty.
WaterAid supporters have made a real difference. Along with our lobbying work we have made an important step in realising our goal of water and toilets for all.
End Water Poverty campaigning continues. We now want to make sure that the meeting commits to addressing the other End Water Poverty call - that no country plan for water and sanitation should fail due to under funding by donors and developing country governments. Funding must be made available for all future plans.
Keep an eye on the WaterAid campaigns pages to see how you can stay involved with our campaigning work.
