Fondation Ensemble

Fondation Ensamble logoIn 2005 the Fondation Ensemble identified WaterAid as an organisation that could benefit from its support, as we deliver long-term sustainable development programmes to improve the water and sanitation situation of some of the world's poorest communities.

Founders Gérard Brémond and Jacqueline Délia-Brémond explain why they are supporting WaterAid:

"We did not wish to work in crisis mode, but rather to give support to long term actions in which the players involved may continue after our intervention has ceased. This is why the operations initiated by our Foundation are concerned with the long term rather than the moment, as part of the only possible development that can be envisaged, which is, of course, sustainable development."

The Foundation has been supporting WaterAid in Burkina Faso since October 2005, by way of a three year grant of €278,774.

The project is being implemented in Passore province in partnership with Sahel Solidarité (SASO), a local organisation with over 30 years' experience of successfully implementing projects at the community level in Burkina Faso.

SASO and WaterAid will work with local communities to ensure that the project provides the most appropriate solutions for their water and sanitation needs.

Key project outcomes will include:

Water Provision

  • 12 new boreholes will be built to benefit at least 3,600 people

  • 1 small town water network will be rehabilitated in Bokin

  • 24 boreholes will be rehabilitated to benefit at least 7,400 people

  • 37 water and user management committees (seven people per committee) will be set up and trained

Sanitation and hygiene promotion

  • 2,500 household SanPlat latrines will be built and used by 37,000 people
  • 18 hygiene promotion volunteers will be trained and equipped with visual aids
  • 5 school health clubs will be set up and trained
  • 5 community income-generating groups will be trained in animal husbandry and soap making

Overall, the project will have a hugely positive impact upon quality of life and standard of health in the targeted communities, illustrating just what a difference the support of trusts and foundations can make.
