Imagine not being able to go to school because there is no water. It sounds like every schoolchild's dream come true! But the lack of water forces millions of children across the developing world to miss out on their education, keeping them in a stranglehold of poverty.

The statistics show just how important water and sanitation is to a child's education:

  • Bangladeshi school attendance increases by 15% when water hauling time is reduced.
  • Tansanian school attendance increases by 12% when water is available within 15 minutes instead of being more than an hour away.
  • 11% more girls attend school when there are sanitation facilities available offering proper privacy.

Just adding water can have a tremendous impact on a community. With less time spent collecting water and with fewer water-related diseases, adults have the time and energy to make a living, school attendance increases and literacy rates improve.

Ask your Rotary Club to Just Add Water this year and help people in Tanzania help themselves out of poverty.
