"We used to fetch water from the river. My son and daughter died from the dirty water and not washing their hands. Now it is easier to fetch water and to go to the toilet. Our hygiene has improved and there isn’t diarrhoea and dysentery like before." Moti Kumari, Tangmang, Nepal Credit: WaterAid/Suzanne Porter
"The building of the latrines has brought lots of changes. Before everyone had to go to the toilet in nature. The flies used to go into the faeces and come in to the houses. They brought dirtiness and illness." Sophie Zongo, Bayandi Palogo, Burkina FasoWhat your money buys To find out more about what your money can buy, please click here. |

Soroptimist International in Great Britain and Ireland (SIGBI) were proud to launch their partnership with WaterAid at the 75th Federation Conference in Cardiff. Federation President, Jackie Mosedale, urged Soroptimists to support WaterAid's work in Bangladesh this year.
"Lack of safe water and toilets is an issue that mainly affects girls and women in the developing world," explains Jackie. "With 4000 children a day dying from diarrhoeal diseases, this is a cause that I would urge Soroptimists to take action to support."
How your club can get involved

To celebrate our 75th anniversary partnership WaterAid is delighted to launch our flagship fundraising event The Great Soroptimist Tea Party! On or around World Water Day on the 22nd March 2010, we are asking clubs across the UK to organise a tea party to raise funds for WaterAid. If this isn’t your cup of tea, how about a coffee morning, a garden party or a cheese and wine evening? Whatever takes your fancy, we would be delighted to have you involved!
