Why WaterAid?

It is always great to hear that schools want to get involved in fundraising for WaterAid as unfortunately, it is often the children in developing countries that suffer the most due to not having enough clean water to drink. In many of the countries we work, as soon as a child is old enough carry water, they take the burden away from their parents. Children as young as five, who in the UK would be starting school, end up carrying as much water as they can carry, sometimes for hours and often in sweltering hot conditions.
You can do something about it!
It costs on average just £15 to provide someone with a lasting supply of water, somewhere decent to go to the toilet and hygiene education to keep common water-related diseases away.
Each year WaterAid is supported by schools from all around the UK and more recently we have been lucky to be working closely with international schools in Europe, Africa and Asia to help bring Water to the people that need it most.
How can we help?
Our messages are simple and can be easily brought to any classroom; be it primary, secondary or infant schools. To make the fundraising easy for you, WaterAid have produced educational resources for children of all ages as well as specific lesson plans available on request for both primary and secondary age school children.

A special mention to some of the schools that have supported WaterAid:
Exeter School has raised over £15,000 for WaterAid since 2002 by putting on an annual concert (pictured right).
Learning about the problems faced by their peers in the developing world means that pupils are enthusiastic in their support.
The school is delighted to be continuing to help people help themselves out of poverty.
St Gabriels School in Newbury raised £7,043.09 by making WaterAid their charity of the year. Students took part in a range of activities including a "speak and dress like a pirate day". They were very excited to have raised such a fantastic amount!
Perse School in Cambridge donated an amazing £5,599.50 after their fundraising event (pictured left).
Their donation will help to support people in Burkina Faso gain access to clean water, safe sanitation and hygiene education.
Of course we want to hear from all schools that have an interest in WaterAid's work. If you would like to discuss further your support of WaterAid, or to ask how we may help your school in its fundraising, please email us, or call 020 7793 4575.
