School harvestWater for harvest, water for life
This harvest time join WaterAid in providing clean water, sanitation and hygiene education to some of the poorest people in Africa, Asia and the Pacific region. Use the WaterAid fundraising pack to help your students learn about the lives of their peers in the developing world and the problems of clean water provision. Water-related diseases such as cholera, dysentery and typhoid result in two million deaths each year. Improving access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene education is crucial in preventing the spread of these illnesses. WaterAid needs your support to continue this vital work in some of the world’s poorest countries. In the Uttar Pradesh region of India, children like Sampat (pictured right) are working with WaterAid to learn good hygiene practices. The changes in her village have meant that teachers have a reason to stay, giving children a better chance of getting an education. Guliabai, Sasaipura village, Sheopur district of Uttar Pradesh says: “There are no water or sanitation problems and fewer diseases now. School teachers come to the village school where before they often wouldn’t bother to turn up. The teacher saw that lots of changes were happening in the village and so now comes to school regularly. Our children now get books, clothes and soap from the school through the government. We hope they will have a good future.” Read our fun ideas on how to get involved in World Toilet Day.
