WaterAid's Summer Fun day
Escape the office for the afternoon and dress up in silly costumes for WaterAid!

Supporting WaterAid can be a great way to motivate employees, increase teamwork, help create a positive workplace atmosphere and give employees the opportunity to develop new skills.

Here are some of the most popular and fun ways of raising money for WaterAid, from the adventurous and sporty to the social and ridiculous...

  • A night at the races
Turn your meeting room or canteen into Sandown for one night only, for a company race night, with your managing director or chief executive dressed up as Channel 4's John McCririck!

  • Auction of promises
Organise an auction of promises. Instead of goods, promises of people's time, labour or talents are auctioned off to the highest bidder. This event is always entertaining as well as lucrative - the dafter the lots the better! Contact the WaterAid Events Team for a step-by-step guide on how to organise your auction.

  • Baby booming!
Get everyone to bring in a photo of themselves as a baby or toddler and then hold a baby who's who competition. Winning photos could be circulated as a screen saver!

  • Beached!
No time to go on holiday? Well let the beach come to work with a beach office day. Replace the meeting room chairs with deckchairs, put your beach towels on your office chair, wear your swimming costume over your work clothes, or make Hawaiian shirts and beach sarongs the required office uniform! Employees pay a donation to take part - or pay a forfeit if they don't!

  • The Big Splash
Get your revenge - put your manager in the stocks and charge to throw wet sponges at them. Better not aim too accurately or you could be getting your P45 when they emerge, soaked through!

  • Cake sale
Get people or teams to bake cakes or cookies that can then be sold onto other colleagues for a donation to WaterAid. Add a watery theme with blue and white coloured icing to represent water, or biscuits cut into the shapes of water drops. Or why not make a swiss-roll shaped cake to represent a water pipe?

  • Car washing service
Set up a car and windscreen-washing service. You'll need a supply of water, buckets, sponges and some good publicity. Bring a vacuum cleaner and charge extra for an inside clean.

  • Dress down day
Hold a dress down Friday or perhaps a blue dress day with employees paying to dress in blue for one day.

  • Drink More Water
Swap your usual tipple for water for a week and get sponsored for every drink of water you have instead of alcohol.

  • Duck race
Hold a sponsored toy duck race and watch your numbered duck quack its way to the finish line!

  • Give an hour
Many people spend hours in Africa and Asia walking to the nearest water source to collect water. Get everyone in the company to think about how much time they save having water on tap, and donate an hour's pay to WaterAid.

  • Go the distance
In Africa and Asia women and children are responsible for collecting water for their families, often walking five miles or more to the nearest water source. You can replicate this by challenging staff to a water-carrying competition.

  • Mine's a pint
Arrange a pint of change collection, and get everyone to bring in a pint glass of loose change from home. Pour all the pints into a blue plastic bin and watch the pennies add up.

  • Mobile money
Don't throw away that old mobile phone - turn it into water through our phone recycling scheme. Collect over five mobiles and they can be collected free.

  • Photo competition
Challenge everyone to take a photo on their holiday with a watery theme, and then hold a photographic exhibition in your canteen or reception area.

  • Spend a penny to raise a penny!
Place a collection box by the toilets with a notice asking everyone using it to make a donation each time they spend a penny! Put up WaterAid posters to raise awareness of the importance of water and sanitation and WaterAid's work. The idea could be adapted to 'every time you use a tap' at home. Making your own container for the donations from a toilet roll is a fantastic idea, or you could try using a small empty plastic water bottle.

  • Sports day
Re-live the best days of your life (school!) with a traditional sports day, featuring such classics as the egg and spoon race, the three-legged race, sack race, tug-of-war and watery obstacle course.

    Turn wine into water
How about organising a blind wine-tasting competition in the lunch hour? (With buckets to spit out the wine, of course!)

  • Water quiz
Check out your employees' IQ by holding a water themed quiz night. WaterAid can provide the questions… and answers!

  • Water-themed karaoke.
Hold a karaoke evening, making sure hits like Waterloo, Bridge over troubled water and Waterfalls are included!

  • Wishing well
Build your own WaterAid wishing well, Indoors or outdoors - the choice is yours, but make sure you hold a launch party and pop a few coins in to set the ball rolling…
