Tempo, the leading brand of tissues in Germany and Austria, raised €200,000 (£174,000) for WaterAid in Uganda through a Hygiene Initiative, which launched on World Toilet Day, 19th November 2009 and ran until the end of February 2010.

Tempo belongs to the global Swedish Company, SCA Hygiene, one of the leading producers of tissue and personal care products, who actively promotes improved hygiene and a sustainable way of working.

An on-pack promotion on Tempo's new toilet paper product featuring a specially designed logo, was run in Germany and Austria, with 10 euro cents donated for every pack of toilet paper sold.

The partnership was a real success enabling Tempo to receive great media exposure for its hygiene messages as well as reinforce its position as a caring and responsible brand. WaterAid was able to leverage the trust and respect of Tempo to raise funds and awareness of its own work in new countries.

Having researched a number of international charities, it was WaterAid's commitment to hygiene education in particular which led Tempo to choose to partner with WaterAid.

Tempo Marketing Manager Romina Waschke says "With WaterAid we made the perfect choice: The organization has been working for 29 years for better hygiene conditions in the world. And we know exactly how our donations are used".

The money raised by the Tempo promotion will go towards WaterAid's work in rural Uganda.
