Employee fundraising in action: The Dean & Dyball Dragon Boat Race
Staff from six Dean and Dyball regional offices around England and Wales took part in the annual Dragon Boat Charity Fun Day.
A total of 13 teams had accepted the challenge arriving with a large crowd of supporters and onlookers who were keen to witness the spectacular racing as well as enjoy the extra activities that had been laid on. These included kayaking, canoeing, raft building, snorkelling and a low ropes activity course along with lots of bouncy castles, a gladiator joust, bungee eliminator, a magician and face painters for the younger set.
A battle of wills and determination was played out on the water resulting in the Bristol Dragons successfully defending the trophy they won the previous year. They were however, made to work hard for it by the Railway Rugrats who came in a close second, and the Odd Jobbers who finished third.
Of course the real point of the day was to raise some money for their chosen charities.
The day raised approximately £10,000 with £5000 of that donated to WaterAid. A special mention is deserved by the Railway Rugrats, lead by Andy Crowley from Dean and Dyball Rail of the South West Region, who secured the Charity Shield as the crew raising the largest sum between them, which was £1250.
