Southern Water, its employees and customers have supported WaterAid since 1981 and promote WaterAid through organising and taking part in fundraising events and making donations.
Southern Water employees support WaterAid in a variety of ways from taking part in the monthly WaterAid lottery to visiting community groups and schools to spread the word about our work.
Thanks to the dedication and enthusiasm of the Southern WaterAid Committee and support from volunteers across the company, many successful fundraising events have been organised over the years. During 2007 and 2008 over £500,000 was raised, which is an amazing achievement.

Kelly Price, a Report Analyst at Southern Water, was fortunate to be selected to see first hand the difference WaterAid makes to poor communities on a recent trip to Bangladesh.
Kelly, along with 11 supporters from the water industry, travelled to Bangladesh with WaterAid to spend time with families who, working in partnership with WaterAid and local partners, gain access to safe water and sanitation.

Kelly also spent time with families who are not receiving assistance from WaterAid, and she found the difference in their living conditions shocking.

The sun shone brightly at the fifth annual Southern Water Charity Race Day at Fontwell Park Racecourse, near Arundel, West Sussex on Saturday 1 October. The event benefits over 7 charities, and WaterAid were delighted to receive a donation of over £11,000 from the day.
We were also thrilled to have the WaterAid toilet running in the mascot race. Southern Water volunteer Jonny Burke took on the challenge and not only won the race but also the competition for best dressed mascot!

On Thursday 8 September, teams from all over Southern England battled it out to be crowned champion of the Southern Region water industry quiz. All teams answered the same questions across the regions and funds were raised for WaterAid through team entry fees and a raffle in each location. It was the first multi-water company event held in different locations on the same night and hopes to have raised £5,000 for WaterAid.

Southern Water's Deputy Capital Delivery Director, Don Rogers, has been busy raising £50,000 for WaterAid by selling his own paintings.
Don sells them either directly to contractors and suppliers or donates them for auction at charity events. Even now, after reaching the sum of £50,000, he has no intentions of hanging up his paint brushes and continues to sell his paintings to raise even more funds for WaterAid.

Southern Water's commitment
Southern Water are hugely passionate about their involvement with WaterAid and their long term commitment has raised many hundreds of thousands of pounds towards WaterAid's work overseas, touching the lives of thousands of the world's poorest people living without access to safe water.
Southern Water employees that have made an outstanding contribution over the years have had their efforts recognised. Kevin Buck, Chairman of the Southern Water WaterAid Committee, who received an MBE at Buckingham Palace in October 2008 for his services to the charity, says:
"I have had the opportunity to see the real difference the money we’ve raised has made to so many lives on a trip to India. The trip inspired me to continue to do as much as I can to help. The main focus of WaterAid has always been 'helping people help themselves', and this remains as strong today as when it was first established as a charitable trust back in 1981.
"Southern Water is delighted to continue to work closely with WaterAid, raising vital funds for some of the world’s poorest communities, while raising awareness about the lack of access to safe clean water and sanitation facilities that affects millions of people on a daily basis."
About Southern Water
Southern Water supplies 552 million litres of quality drinking water every day to nearly one million households. It also treats and recycles 1,400 million litres of wastewater each day from almost two million households. As a long standing supporter of WaterAid, the partnership forms a key part of the company's social responsibility activities within the global community.
The support that Southern Water gives to WaterAid is invaluable. It enables us to continue working with local partners and communities to provide practical, long-term solutions to water and sanitation problems.
